After the success of the first 10000 ape avatars, Bored Apes were sold. Yuga Labs launched a new collection, and they were named Mutant Apes Yacht Club. Yacht Club has a collection of 20,000 Mutant Apes in this Mutant Bored Apes.
Among all the 20,000 Mutant Apes, the other 10,000 were awarded to the owner of the Bored Ape avatar. The rest of the 10,000 Mutant Apes were put on sale for their new users who wanted to join the Bored Ape Yacht Ecosystem. All these 10,000 Mutant Apes were sold in the Dutch Auction.

The Dutch Auction is one of the famous methods in which an item is auctioned at a higher asking price, which will gradually lower the price. Last time, the original Mutant Ape was set on the Dutch Auction on 28th August 2021 with an initial cost of 3ETH, and then it was reduced until they were sold out.

What is Serum, and Why is it used?
The Serum is another NFT collection launched by Yuga Labs on the same day they auctioned in the Dutch Auction. On 28th August 2021, Yuga Labs launched 10,000 Serums for the Bored Ape avatars Owner to Mutant their Bored Apes. And these Serum is only used once.
As all the Serums are not the same, there were three types of Serums launched by Bored Apes
- M1 Serums – 7,500
- M2 Serums – 2,492
- M3 Serums / Mega Serums – 8
The Mutant Apes were formed from the M3 Serums which are known as rare ones.
Among all these, M3 Serums was sold out at $6 Million, and the Bored Ape cost approximately $1.2 Million.
Step-by-Step Guide to Mutating a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT

- Step 1: Bored Ape NFT

- Once you find out, any serum can be used on your Bored Ape NFT.
- Step 3: Purchase Serum
In The 3rd step, the Serum must be needed to mutate your NFT.
- For purchasing Serum you can go to the NFT marketplace like OpenSea.
- Purchase the Serum you wanted to use in Bored Ape to be mutated.
- Make Sure, you only have to purchase the same Serum that has not been used yet in your Bored Ape NFT.
- Once you can find your Serum, you can complete your purchase process.

- Step 4: Mutate Your Bored Ape NFT
The 4th and final step is to complete the mutation process.
- Go to the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
- Connect to your Digital Wallet.
- Then, Choose your Ape from it.
- After that, Choose a serum M1 | M2 | MEGA
- Mutate your Ape
- Click on Drink it.
- And Pay for it.
So there you go, your Bored Ape has been Mutated Successfully. Your Bored Ape NFT is no longer now, they were upgraded into the Mutant Bored Ape NFT.
Difference Between Mutant Bored Apes and Bored Apes
There is another way to mint the Mutant Directly. But the Small difference between the two NFTs is serums. These Serums will change the appearance of the Bored Ape NFT.
